Bayern Munich legend and World Cup-winning captain Lothar Matthaus has advised his former club to sign Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Speaking on Sky Germany, the seven-time Bundesliga champions named the 24-year-old Greek international as a potential centre-back Bayern could target this summer, with Mavropanos starring for VfB Stuttgart on-loan this season.

As reported by Football London, the Arsenal defender is expected to join Stuttgart on a permanent deal this summer in a transfer that has confused many supporters. Mavropanos has been one of the Bundesliga’s top defenders this campaign.

Even with the likes of William Saliba on Arsenal’s books and Ben White impressing for the north London side, Mavropanos is a player who could offer something to the north London side. And for Matthaus, the centre-back could be perfect for Bayern this summer.

The UEFA Champions League giants are set to lose Niklas Sule at the end of this season. And given Mavropanos’ success with Stuttgart and the payday that the Bundesliga side could be in for, it makes sense why Bayern would move for the Arsenal loanee.

The German football legend said: “There are some very interesting players in the Bundesliga. I think Stuttgart’s Mavropanos, Leipzig’s [Josko] Gvardiol or Bochum’s [Armel] Bella-Kotchap would be good options for Bayern.”

From Serge Gnabry to Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Arsenal have had some real transfer horror stories, and Mavropanos will no doubt join the Pantheon of moves made by the Gunners that typical backfired right into their face.

Mavropanos’ has been a revelation for Stuttgart since joining the Bundesliga club. And with Matthaus now tipping the defender for Bayern stardom, Arsenal have once again made a hash out of getting the best out of a young player.
