Danny Murphy told Match of the Day on BBC One that Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, is being protected by the England management.

The Spurs striker was brought off for his country during their goalless draw at Euro 2020 with Scotland on Friday, and Murphy thinks he’s getting the same treatment Antoine Griezmann received when France won the World Cup in 2018.

Up until the semi-finals, the Barcelona star was constantly brought off by Didier Deschamps.

And Murphy thinks the same could be happening to the under-fire Kane in order to keep him fresh for the knockout stages.

“When France won the World Cup,” said Murphy. “Griezmann got brought off every game up until the semi-finals, which was his first 90 minutes.

“I think they are thinking about protecting Harry Kane for later in the tournament.”

Kane’s performances in front of goal at Euro 2020 has sparked quite a reaction from supporters across the country.

Some think the England captain should be in a position where he is droppable, but others think there is a lack of service to the Premier League’s top-scorer for the last campaign.

One thing is for sure, the service to Kane has been pretty abject during both games, but he has also looked off-colour, losing his duels and lacking that sharpness in the final third.

But this is where Southgate needs to back his main man up top and look towards his tactics and set-up because the bigger problems lie around Kane rather than with the player himself.
