Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham star Harry Kane could be subject to rejuvenated interest from Manchester City this summer.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, the ex-England international predicted that the Premier League leaders will make a second attempt to sign the current Three Lions captain.
Kane was the star of the show last weekend as the striker played a massive role in Tottenham’s 3-2 win against City, with the forward bagging a brace and blowing open both the Premier League title race as well as the chase for top-four.
It was the 28-year-old’s best performance of the season in what has been a campaign to forget for the England superstar, with Kane scoring just seven goals in the Premier League for Tottenham.
Despite this poor form for Kane’s standards, the attacker’s performance against City has reignited the conversation over if the Englishman will leave Tottenham this summer, and for Ferdinand, City and Guardiola will make an attempt in the summer.
Ferdinand said when asked if Guardiola would be tempted to sign Kane: “I think after seeing that after the weekend, yeah. I think he does, I think he goes back in. Get a cut-price fee, £70mish, which in today’s market is like £5m back in my day. I reckon he does. If City buy him, they clean up again.”
Manchester City move could see Kane reach his best footballing level
Whilst Kane’s display against City was mesmerising, the striker has, for the large part, been average at best this season. Yet a move to Manchester in the summer could unlock the striker’s best potential.
Kane has clearly outgrown Tottenham based on his form this season, and Ferdinand’s comments that Guardiola should go back in for the England star could spark City’s interest in the Premier League forward ahead of the summer window.
