Cameron Carter-Vickers leaving Tottenham Hotspur is looking like a certainty.

That was the case after helping Celtic to a Scottish Premiership title this past season, having been loaned out by Spurs yet again last summer.

But based on his latest comments, a departure is definitely likely.

The 24-year-old has been on the Lilywhites’ books for his entire career and yet hasn’t made his Premier League debut for the North Londoners.

That right there illustrates that he has virtually no future at Tottenham as a starting centre-back.

The USA international dazzled North of the border with Celtic throughout the 2021-22 campaign, with the Premiership champions reportedly in talks to sign him in a £6 million deal.

And although Carter-Vickers refused to confirm that he was heading back to Parkhead, the powerful defender – labelled a ‘beast‘ by Jan Vertonghen in 2016 – did pretty much reveal that an exit was probable.

He said via The Scottish Sun: “Celtic have to come to some kind of agreement with Tottenham so it’s not completely in my hands. I just want to be somewhere playing football. If I’m being completely honest, I think it’s time to move on permanently.”

You can’t blame Carter-Vickers for wanting some stability.

This is a player who has had seven loan spells away from Tottenham Hotspur since the 2017-18 campaign.

The writing has been on the wall for him since way back in Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and hopefully for him – and Spurs – something can be ironed with the Bhoys.

If he doesn’t return to Glasgow, well there’ll be a lot of angry Celtic supporters, such was his influence in helping Ange Postecoglou’s side win the title this past season.

But thankfully, Carter-Vickers leaving Tottenham Hotspur seems a matter of time.
