SBI Soccer claim Celtic are in advanced talks to complete the signing of Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis. That is, despite interest from Leicester, Wolves and Watford in Carter-Vickers.

Carter-Vickers, 24, has been impressing in the middle of Ange Postecoglou’s defence this season – having joined on a loan-to-buy deal last summer. He has clocked up 41 appearances already, more for Celtic than any other club.

In that time, he has helped his side keep 21 clean sheets – the latest coming against Ross County on Sunday afternoon, a 2-0 win. He has also netted four goals, and Celtic are set to make a permanent move for the defender.

It is believed that Tottenham’s valuation is £6million, but with add-ons, the ex-Swansea and Luton loanee’s fee could reach as much as £10million. The five-figure fee would make Carter-Vickers a club-record Celtic signing.

Celtic close in on Carter-Vickers: Deal suits all, including Tottenham

Tottenham would have been dreaming if they thought they could get a fee of £10million for Carter-Vickers last summer. The defender has enjoyed a few decent spells in the Championship, but nothing that jumped out.

His loan move to Celtic has changed that. Carter-Vickers has sparkled in a title race, in the Glasgow derby and in Europe. So, Celtic are getting a big player in their side signed permanently, and Spurs a decent fee.

It suits all. While Carter-Vickers might harbour ambitions for a Premier League move in the future – Brendan Rodgers among his admirers – staying at Celtic for the next two or three seasons benefits the American.
