Jamie Carragher told Thierry Henry to ‘stop laughing’ as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Premier League legend added that he ‘screamed’ after watching Arthur Gomes dance through Tottenham’s defence, including nutmegging two players on his way to scoring.
Spurs went into yesterday’s game unbeaten and looking to add to the three points they picked up at home to ten-man Marseille last week.
But Antonio Conte’s side were sloppy for large parts of the match, and with minutes left until the end, they were punished by Paulinho from a corner.
Before Arthur went on a mazy run, slicing through Tottenham’s defence, including nutmegging goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on his way to sealing the points.
Both Henry and Carragher reacted to that Tottenham defeat, as well as Arthur’s goal, as they told CBS Sports (13/09/22 at 7:35 pm).
“No, Thierry, stop laughing,” said Carragher. “You are laughing. You are enjoying this.”
Henry responded: “I am not laughing. No, I am not (enjoying it). Put the camera on me. I screamed because of the meg (for Arthur’s goal). Woooh. Blimey. Wow.”
Carragher then added and joked: “An unmissable moment. Do you see the way he (Henry) celebrated that goal for Lisbon?”
Henry then continued on Arthur’s goal: “Look at that step over, meg, see you later. Hugo (Lloris), meg, see you later. 2-0. Bye.”
Carragher added: “It was a really good game, it’s a bitter blow for Spurs, but it just goes to show how important set-pieces are and then they just go and confined the misery of Tottenham, and the joy of Thierry Henry.”

That was Tottenham’s first defeat of the new season, but they are still undefeated in the Premier League and will be tested more than they think at the weekend.
Rock-bottom Leicester City will travel to north London, with no expectation on their shoulders, because of their struggles, and expected to suffer more misery.
But history has proved that Premier League games, after a midweek match for European sides, can be that extra tough on the legs and mind.
Whilst Leicester are suffering down the bottom, on paper, their XI and squad is far better than the table suggests, so this could be a potential banana skin game for Conte and his players.
