Tim Sherwood says it was a ‘good choice’ for Harry Kane to secure a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich by claiming that he had ‘outgrown’ the club.
The former Tottenham boss added that it was ‘impossible’ for the 30-year-old to join another Premier League club, after he was ‘very surprised’ that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United didn’t try to sign him.
That was probably a certain Daniel Levy just not entertaining the option of Harry Kane moving to a team that he would deem a Premier League rival.
But with Kane now starting a new chapter in his footballing career, Sherwood backed the decison of a player he brought through the ranks because ‘it was his choice’, as he told Premier League Productions (14/08/23 at 2:25 pm).
Life in Munich didn’t start as the England captain would have liked because his debut began with a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup – Didi Hamann was amazed by the reception he got before he came off the bench.
Nonetheless, this is what Sherwood made of Kane’s transfer from Tottenham to Bayern Munich this summer.

“Yes (he made the right choice to leave) because it’s his choice,” said Sherwood. “I think he had a look at who else was in for him. I was very surprised there were no Premier League teams, especially Manchester United. I thought they were crying out for a player like him.
On Levy not wanting to sell to Man United: “I don’t know that. But I think there is a very, very good chance that it was impossible for him to move to a club where he wants to go to in the Premier League.
“It’s not a bad one, Bayern Munich. They are one of the best teams in the history of what they win. The Champions League. It’s going to be huge – it’s the Champions League that he has gone there to win and the Treble. I think they are capable of doing it.
“I think it’s a good choice for him, I really do. He had to leave Tottenham. The time was up – he was outgrown them. As it was going on and on. I thought he would have stayed until the end of his contract and then went on a free.”

Kane was always going to leave
Whether it was a number of seasons ago, this summer or in 12 months on a free, it seemed pretty obvious that Kane was looking and had been looking to leave for a while now.
From Tottenham’s perspective, it’s a huge shame for them, especially because of the number of goals he scored and how it didn’t equate to any trophies.
That’s where someone like Levy comes into the picture and why fans are well and truly on his back.
