‘Have you ever’: Didi Hamann wowed by Bayern Munich fans’ actions before Harry Kane’s debut

Didi Hamann was left amazed by the reception Bayern Munich fans gave to Harry Kane moments before the now-departed Tottenham Hotspur striker made his debut for the club during their German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig.

Hours after leaving Tottenham, the 30-year-old was entering the field at the Allianz Arena in Bayern Munich colours for the very first time and he got a standing ovation as he raced down the side of the pitch to come on.

Tottenham fans loved and adored Harry Kane and they will be forever grateful for what he did for the club.

But former Liverpool player Hamann asked on commentary about Spurs’ all-time leading scorer, ‘have you ever seen a standing ovation for a player to come on’, with lead commentator Derek Rae responding by saying ‘these are exceptional circumstances’, as they told Sky Sports Football (12/08/23).

Unfortunately for Kane, he couldn’t mark his Bayern debut in a dream fashion because Thomas Tuchel’s side were well-beaten 3-0.

By the time Kane could enter the field, the Bundesliga champions were 2-0 down and he couldn’t make the impact he would have liked, but he now has plenty of time to write his name into the legendary books.

“Have you seen a standing ovation for a player to come on,” asked Didi Hamann on commentary. Lead commentator, Derek Rae responded: “Not too many times. But these are exceptional circumstances.”

Hamann added: “This is absolutely brilliant. I am getting goosebumps myself seeing this. The whole of the stand went up when he raced over to get his bib off and get ready to come on. Absolutely brilliant.”

New chapter for Kane…

A legend of Tottenham and now it’s time for Kane to be a legend for Bayern.

Winning trophies is a minimum at Bayern, so he is going to feel that heat straightaway, but the ultimate one he will be hoping to get his hands on is the European Cup.

That’s the one Bayern fans are hoping the England star can lead them to, and if he does, then his name will be written into the club’s legendary books.
