Mikel Arteta reportedly considered playing defender Sead Kolasinac in midfield for Arsenal’s FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.
According to the Athletic, the lack of options in midfield almost pushed the Gunners boss to play the Bosnian international in midfield alongside Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Kolasinac has hardly played for Arsenal this season and naturally plays as a left-back. However, Arteta was seemingly close to pairing the 28-year-old with Lokonga against the Championship side last night.
Instead, 18-year-old Hale End prospect Charlie Patino made his full debut for the north London side as Arsenal crashed out of the FA Cup, with the midfield looking unbalanced and inexperienced.
Indeed, Kolasinac is set to leave Arsenal this month. The defender, who earns a reported £100,000-a-week, has his contract up at the end of the season.
And with Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares prefered over the former Schalke star, Kolasinac looks set to leave Arsenal five years after joining for free from the Bundesliga.
Yet this news that Arteta was considering playing Kolasinac in midfield was too much to handle for Arsenal supporters, who are stunned that the defender was even considered as an option.
Arsenal fans shocked as Kolasinac was close to starting in midfield

With Kolasinac hardly a fan favourite at the Emirates, fans on social media were stunned that the German-born fullback was in contention to start against Forest.
Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say on Twitter about Kolasinac almost getting the start last night…
