Gary Rowett has backed Sean Dyche to become Everton’s next manager and stated that the out-of-work boss was close to getting the gig last time.

The Millwall boss shared that he knows Sean Dyche personally, but he hasn’t spoken to him about whether or not he will go in at Goodison Park now.

Whether Farhad Moshiri picks Dyche or Marcelo Bielsa, it’s a job that needs a serious character, with the club sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone and facing the prospect of going down for the first time in over five decades.

From Frank Lampard to Ronald Koeman, many managers of different backgrounds, tactical set-ups and man-management styles have taken to the Goodison Park hotseat.

Yet, it has only resulted in one thing and that’s the club continually going backwards on and off the field of play.

Will Dyche be the man to take the job next? Well, Rowett shared why he feels the 51-year-old is the man for that highly-pressured role, as he told Sky Sports News.

“You think the timing is more of a Sean Dyche, for now,” said Rowett. “It might not be something people see long-term.

“But, at this moment in time for that club, everything we have described is everything he has done at Burnley. Over a long period of time, not only just one or two seasons. He kept that side very competitive. They didn’t finish bottom all the time. I think they finished seventh one season.

“I think he has the characteristics. If you are looking for a British manager right now, then he is the right one.

On if Dyche would be put off by everything surrounded by Everton: “No, I don’t think he would. I do know Sean, but without speaking to him I can’t answer for him. But I think he would have been offered a number of Championship jobs and he has sat there thinking ‘you know what, if I wait my time’, then I think the right one for him is around the corner.

“If I am not mistaken, I think he was close to getting it previously. I think the timing now is perfect. A Bielsa would be fantastic, but if Bielsa doesn’t want or take the job, then someone like Sean Dyche could lift the club and that team.”

DYCHE IS THE MAN

It seems as though it’s going to be either Marcelo Bielsa or Dyche.

Both will instantly command respect and boot out any issues within the dressing room without any fuss, but Bielsa isn’t the guy for the here and now.

He’s never taken a job midway through the season. The former Leeds United boss plays fireball football and he simply wouldn’t be able to implement it without any pre-season.

These already under-performing Everton players will decline further because they wouldn’t be able to cope with what he wants.

That’s why Everton need to turn to Dyche because that back-to-basics and much-needed stability are what’s needed on the blue half of Merseyside.
