Ally McCoist has tipped in-demand playmaker James Maddison to secure a transfer to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United over Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

After Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship, the Midlands side are set to lose key assets to their team, as James Maddison is set expected to lead those players out.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle have shown strong interest in the 26-year-old, but for McCoist, he is better off moving to St James’ Park because they are ‘guaranteed to be on the rise’, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (27/06/23 at 7:35 am).

But it seems as though Spurs could be getting their man, with recent claims that they are in ‘advanced’ negotiations to sign the England star.

If the Foxes were still a Premier League team, then they would have been demanding a typical inflated transfer fee for their player, which probably would have been north of £60 million.

But, if Maddison does secure a transfer to north London, then they will be getting a player that, according to McCoist, is ‘perfect’ for them.

“I could see him either at Newcastle or Spurs,” said McCoist. “It will be an interesting one, to which one he chooses if he was given a choice.

On which he would pick: “Probably Newcastle. I know it’s a crazy thing to say. I just think Newcastle are guaranteed to be on the rise, at this moment in time.

“I want Spurs to do well. I want big Ange to do well. I really do. That has been a position that has been a problem for them and I keep saying it, since Eriksen left, that number ten and attacking midfielder. I think he will be perfect there, James Maddison. Equally in that Newcastle side.”

Levy better hurry up

Whilst there is talk of Maddison and Spurs being ‘advanced’ in their talks, nothing has been agreed between Leicester, as of this moment.

So, Daniel Levy better get a hurry up and get this deal over the line, or else, it can change within a flick of a switch, especially if Newcastle decide to put an offer in themselves.

Either way, if Spurs secure Maddison’s talents, then not only will it please the fans, but it will also be a statement to the rest.
