Ian Wright has claimed that ‘I know’ there are players waiting to join Arsenal if Mikel Arteta can guide them into the Champions League this season.

The Highbury hero refused to drop names by stating that ‘I can’t say too much’, before making it clear that only eight games have been played in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal are sitting at the top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of the champions Manchester City, as they have also recently come out of a morale-boosting 3-1 win over north London rivals, Tottenham.

The main aim at the start of this campaign for Arteta was to wash away the nightmares of the previous campaign and put the club back with the elite in the Champions League.

In the summer, they signed the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko without Champions League football, so that just goes to show the pull the club still has.

But Wright has seemingly suggested it can get better if they reach their goals because there are players waiting in the wings, as he told Premier League Productions (03/10/22 at 2:45 pm).

“Whatever happens off the back of this season, if Arsenal get into the top four, with the players that I know are probably waiting to come to Arsenal because they are going to be in the Champions League,” said Wright.

The former striker is then pressed to drop some names and he responded by saying: “No, no. I can’t say anything. I am waiting for Arsenal to get into the Champions League, this season will be a massive learning curve for this team, that’s the least we can get out of it.

“I don’t want to say too much. It’s only eight games.”

WHO COULD ARSENAL SIGN NEXT SUMMER?

Given Wright’s connections with Arsenal, he must have spoken to somebody pretty close inside the club in order to make these comments and it should make fans excited.

The former striker does have a relationship with Mikel Arteta and the club’s technical director, Edu Gaspar and he has also previously spoken about talking with the duo at Arsenal’s training ground.

Could that be Wright’s inside knowledge? Either way, a host of names have been tipped to move to the Emirates in recent times, including a few players that are out-of-contract next summer.

Two of those players are based in the Midlands – Douglas Luiz at Aston Villa, who Villa refused to sell to Arsenal on transfer deadline day, and also Youri Tielemans, another player that is running down his contract it seems at the King Power Stadium.
