What an awful night for Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Lisbon in North London as Antonio Conte’s side missed the chance to book their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Heartbreakingly, Tottenham players, fans and staff thought they had sealed their passage, when Harry Kane fired home a 95th-minute winner which was soon ruled to have been offside.
Minutes before the Kane strike, however, the Lilywhites had another opportunity to snatch the three points.

But central defender Eric Dier missed a gilt-edged chance – another one, having spurned a number of them before that, too.
And here’s how Jamie O’Hara reacted on Twitter to the final Dier miss.
Dier, a £4 million signing in 2014 by Mauricio Pochettino [The Telegraph], obviously isn’t noted for his goalscoring.
But then again, you don’t have to be the Lionel Messi of central defenders to have scored some of the chances that came his way against the Portuguese outfit.
Despite earning a point, it would’ve felt like a defeat for a Tottenham side who just aren’t at the races these days.
Prior to this result, Conte’s troops posted another dreadful performance in losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle United in North London.
For whatever reason, Spurs just aren’t clicking and even though there was a sense of injustice about the Harry Kane goal being chalked off, nobody affiliated with the club would argue that they deserved to win that game.
