Oriol Romeu expressed his surprise on Sky Sports after being told that Danny Ings had moved from Southampton to Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

When Villa announced the signing of Ings on Twitter, it pretty much shocked everyone because it did come out of the blue.

Whilst there were links with Ings to Villa before, nothing had been reported in the past few days that a fee had been submitted or anything had been agreed.

Either way, Romeu, who was playing against Levante in a pre-season friendly, shared that he had just been told about the Ings transfer after he had finished playing.

“I just found out after the game,” said Romeu. “They told me. We said ‘this money wasn’t there’.

“I thought he had something with his back. Apparently, he has moved to Villa and there’s really nothing we can say.

“He has been great for us. We are going to wish him all the best. He is also probably going to do a great job over there.

“So, he’s a great lad. A great guy to have around. An amazing player. I wish him all the best.”

Ings may not be the only Saints player that Villa land this summer because they have been linked with others.

The most notable one is their free-kick specialist, James Ward-Prowse, although Romeu himself has also been linked.

Either way, with the impending departure of Jack Grealish to Manchester City, it seems as though Villa are getting some serious business done outside of losing their star man.

Not forgetting the players who are already through the door in Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey, to name a few.
