Ings has one year left on his current deal and could leave the South Coast on a free next summer.

Villa fans have offered a mixed response to these rumours and have highlighted that they already have the thriving Ollie Watkins up top.

It also needs to be noted that Watkins was named in the 33-man England squad for Euro 2020, but not Ings before it was trimmed down.

Still, it would seriously elevate this progressing and forward-thinking Villa side that is dreaming of European football next season if they were to land Ings’ signature.

Ings has the pedigree in the Premier League, and as Villa fans will be well aware, he scored an absolute belter on their turf last season.

But it has to be questioned why the speedster would join a team, not in Europe and also possibly in a situation where he wouldn’t be the first choice.

Dean Smith does need more depth up top and decisions do have to be made on the players behind Watkins in the B6 pecking order.

Keinan Davis shows promises of life when offered the chance, but seemingly isn’t trusted enough, whilst Wesley returned from a long-term injury in March and he has a big pre-season ahead of him.

Nonetheless, this is how Villa fans reacted to those Ings rumours:
