Lucas Torreira has hinted that he is open to leaving Arsenal this summer in favour of a permanent move to ACF Fiorentina, where the midfielder is thriving this season.

Speaking to Sky Italia via GIFN, the Uruguay international stated that he is happy both on and off the pitch in Florence. Torreira joined the Serie A side on loan last summer, with La Viola having an option to sign the Arsenal star for good at the end of this campaign.

The Gunners signed Torreira in 2018 for a reported £26m according to BBC Sport, yet despite an incredible debut season under Unai Emery, the former Sampdoria star struggled in his sophomore year with the club.

The style of play in the Premier League, the dramatic culture change and the Covid-19 pandemic saw Torreira leave Arsenal for Atletico Madrid on loan. However, Italy appears to be the midfielder’s preferred country.

Torreira has been one of Fiorentina’s best players this season, and when asked about his future, the South American hinted that he wanted to stay in Tuscany, with the Italian club likely to make the midfielder’s loan spell a permanent one in the summer.

Torreira said: “The most important thing is that I have to find happiness on the pitch and here I am finding it both on and off the pitch. It depends on many other things because my club is Arsenal.

The Uruguay international added when asked about his future with Arsenal and Fiorentina: “I don’t know what will happen between clubs that will have to find an agreement, but I want to stay focused on the season finale.”

Permanent Fiorentina move is perfect for Torreira this summer

Torreira will forever be seen by Arsenal supporters as a player where everyone wished it had worked out, with the midfielder offering qualities and a fighting spirit that made the Uruguayan a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium.

However, there is no denying that Torreira deserves a permanent move away from Arsenal, and after an incredible season with Fiorentina, the midfielder deserves his perfect outcome after four years of being on the Gunners’ books.
