Alexander Isak is one of the players who Arsenal are reportedly trying to sign this summer.
According to Cadena Ser in Spain, via HITC Sport, Arsenal are already in talks to sign the Real Sociedad hitman, with Edu a big fan.
Isak scored 17 goals in 34 league games for the Spanish side this past season but his stock is only going to rise following a series of dazzling displays for Sweden at Euro 2020.
The Athletic have reported that the 21-year-old has a £60 million release clause.
If he continues to shine at the European Championships, logically it’ll be difficult for Sociedad to keep the reported Arsenal target.
But his manager at club level, Imanol Alguacil, has told Swedish outlet Expressen that he has ‘no doubt’ Isak is staying in San Sebastien this summer.
He said: “Yes, I’m very calm. I always say that with those in the squad I go to death, and I have no doubt that he wants to be here.”
Strong statement
Alguacil’s claim is a strong one, but that’s the point.
Acting strong when you’re actually quite weak is a pretty basic principle in situations like this.
There’s no doubt that Isak himself will definitely be keen to leave if an Arsenal – or perhaps somebody much bigger – triggers that £60 million release clause.
So, on the surface it looks like bad news for the Gunners but, really, it changes absolutely nothing.
