Well, Liverpool will not be winning the quadruple this season.

Manchester City have pipped Jurgen Klopp’s side to the Premier League in quite horrible fashion, by beating Aston Villa 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool were favourites to win the title with 15 minutes left in both games.

That’s because City were trailing 2-0 to the Villans and although it was 1-1 at Anfield, between the Reds and Wolves, the hosts were constantly pushing.

However, three goals in a stunning 15 minutes for the Sky Blues turned the game on its head and ensured that Pep Guardiola’s troops would be champions once again.

The drama got a little too much for the usually-cool Kevin de Bruyne, who broke down in tears after the full-time whistle at Eastlands following the massive relief.

And although Ashley Williams has credited the ‘fantastic’ Liverpool, he feels that the Belgian’s tears sum up the occasion.

He said on BBC Sport: “I have never seen De Bruyne lose control of his emotions like this. They deserve this, you can see the relief. They have been pushed and pushed by a fantastic Liverpool side. What emotion from Manchester City.”

Kevin de Cruyne

You can’t blame Kevin de Bruyne crying, given that it looked certain that the Citizens had messed it up for themselves.

But what a stunning turnaround at the Etihad and although Liverpool will be hurt, Klopp and co must regroup – and quick.

In six days, they’re off to Paris for a Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Only winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup would be such a disappointment for this Liverpool outfit and it’s massively important that the Reds dust themselves down, painful as it might be, and focus on the Spanish giants.
