Trevor Sinclair has shared the delay in Djed Spence’s transfer to Tottenham is that both parties need to come to the ‘right figures’ for the player’s transfer, as he told Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel.
The former England winger shared that Jon Smith, the man dubbed as one of the first super agents in football, is the man ‘looking after’ Spence.
This one has been dragging on for some while now, but ever since Spence helped Nottingham Forest to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, his name has popped up on Tottenham’s transfer radar.
Spurs have been pretty efficient and to-the-point in the transfer market so far, with the likes of Yves Bissouma and Richarlison arriving for big-money fees before they could jet off for their pre-season tour of Korea.
But there is clearly a stumbling block between the Premier League side and Middlesbrough for Spence, as Sinclair shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old being ‘keen’ on a move to the club and how he has ‘incredible pace’ to his game.
“I do have inside information but I am not allowed to reveal that,” said Sinclair. “I got told some bits and bobs last Wednesday when I was with Simon and Jim.
“I do know that Jon Smith is looking after him. It’s a deal that Tottenham are trying to get done. It’s just coming to the right figures and then getting his personal wage sorted out.
“I think the player is keen. I know there have been a few clubs interested in him, and rightly so. The first time I saw him play against Arsenal, I think he marked two players out of the game on Arsenal’s left.
“He has shown incredible pace. Defensive qualities. Then, going the other way, shown really qualities going forward as well.
“Sometimes you see a player and you think ‘he’s destined for the Premier League’. I said it when Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal that this boy is destined for the Premier League.”
END OF THE ROAD FOR EMERSON OR DOHERTY?
If Spence does sign, then that will mean Antonio Conte has three right wing-backs to pick from for next season.
Even with the club returning to the Champions League, it’s pretty obvious that is a bit too much and one of those players needs to leave.
Prior to his season-ending injury, Doherty did have a bit of a revival under Conte, especially at left wing-back, but it seems as though he could be heading for the exit door.
For large parts of the Irishman’s time in London, he has struggled to find that form, but even then, he has still faired better than Emerson Royal.
Either way, someone’s time at the club is up if this long-winded Spence deal is finally signed, sealed and delivered.
