Paul Merson has written in SportsKeeda that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should not have used Jorginho in the match against Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.

The former Arsenal star has said that he felt sorry for the former Chelsea midfielder that he had to come on as a substitute in the Premier League game against Everton.

Arsenal suffered a surprise 1-0 loss at the hands of Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the league last weekend.

The Gunners are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, while the Toffees are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the campaign.

It was Sean Dyche’s first game in charge of Everton.

And the Merseyside club won.

Everton were the better team, while Arsenal failed to put in a good performance.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta brought Jorginho on for Thomas Partey in the 59th minute.

The Italy international midfielder could not really do much of note.

It was a disappointing debut for Jorginho, who joined Arsenal from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea on January transfer deadline day.

And Merson has said that he felt sorry for the midfielder, who he had described as “perfect for Arsenal” in The Daily Star last week.

Paul Merson on Arsenal midfielder Jorginho

Merson wrote: “If Arsenal had defeated Everton last week, they would’ve won the Premier League. They would’ve gone eight points clear at the top with a game in hand.

“Everton had a lot of energy about them, and I felt sorry for Jorginho the other day. I didn’t think it was the right time to bring him on.”
