Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Newcastle United’s transfer plans after they lost the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies suffered a setback on Sunday with a defeat against Manchester United at Wembley, but this loss seemingly hasn’t deterred the owners from implementing their grandiose plans at St James’ Park.

Indeed, according to Romano, Newcastle’s owners are still convinced that this is just the beginning of their club’s journey and that they are planning some big signings in the summer transfer window, including a new left-back.

Newcastle want a left-back

Romano shared what he’s heard from within Newcastle after the cup final.

“All the answers I get on the Newcastle side after the final was on the same page. This was just the beginning of the dream. They will be back to win and they are convinced that they will do that and positive that they are just at the beginning,” Romano said.

“For sure they will be in the market in the summer, for sure they will do something important. For example, I expect a new left-back to join the club, this is one of the priorities they will have in the summer and probably a new winger.”

Need a left-back

As good as Dan Burn has been this season, Newcastle could probably do with getting a replacement in this summer.

Indeed, the 6’7 former Brighton defender is a more natural centre-back, and while he’s been doing a fantastic job at full-back, he’s struggled in recent weeks, especially when coming up against pacy wingers.

The likes of Kieran Tierney have been linked in recent weeks, and perhaps he would be a good option for Newcastle next season as they look to make the next step in their evolution.
