Kevin Campbell has reacted to Nuno Tavares’s performance for Arsenal against Liverpool last night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side subjected Arsenal to a 4-0 mauling at Anfield.
Liverpool were sensational and their pressing affected the Gunners negatively, forcing the visitors into errors.
Then again, some of Mikel Arteta’s side did make quite a few unforced mistakes – and the Portuguese left-back was guilty of a few.
It was a poor pass from Tavares which led to the Reds going 2-0 ahead through Diogo Jota in the second half.
And Campbell, speaking to the Highbury Squad on YouTube, has admitted that he doesn’t know what the 21-year-old was doing, giving him a 3/10 rating.
He said: “I don’t understand how he could pass it there. I don’t understand. Look, Tavares he made a mistake. I’ll give Tavares a three today. That second goal was the killer.”
Hurt
After the game, Tavares stood hunched over on the pitch at Anfield, seeming devastated over his performance – and mistakes.
Arteta made a huge call in keeping him in the first XI ahead of Kieran Tierney and you have to say that it backfired in a big way.
Then again, Tavares, who cost £7 million this past summer, is still only 21 and has only started four Premier League games.
He can and will get a lot better and you’d hope that his errors last night – because there was more than one – doesn’t cause his confidence to plummet.
