Richarlison joining Tottenham Hotspur seems a matter of time.
According to UOL in Brazil, Tottenham are set to sign the Everton attacker in a £50 million deal, having snubbed a transfer to Arsenal.
It was reported earlier on Thursday [90 min] that Spurs were hoping to secure the signing next week.
If and when that happens, the 25-year-old will be the Lilywhites’ fourth signing of the summer, after Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.
Richarlison has been traditionally a wide player throughout his time in the Premier League, with spells at Watford and Everton.
And Paul Merson cannot believe that the North Londoners are spending such a major amount on the South American, by virtue of how good Dejan Kulusevski – another wide player – was last season.
He told Sportkeeda: “Richarlison is also close to completion. Personally, I don’t see why they are splashing the big bucks on the latter, as he’d effectively replace Dejan Kulusevski in the starting lineup, who was outstanding in the second half of last season.”
Football is a squad game and Conte, a serial winner, knows how important a good squad is.
Kulusevski may or may not play as regularly as a result of Richarlison’s arrival but, by the same token, the Brazilian coming in will make the Sweden international raise his level.
There hasn’t been anywhere near enough competition within this Tottenham squad down the years, competition for places.
It can only be a good thing because Richarlison is also capable of playing centrally, prompting Son Heung-min to raise his level, too.
Although Merson cannot see it, this is definitely an excellent addition.
