Ian Wright has stated that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won’t be happy right now after watching Arsenal beat Leeds United 4-1 on Saturday evening, as he told Premier League Productions (18/12/21 at 7:40 pm).
The Highbury legend stated that Aubameyang will be feeling ‘a bit aggrieved’ because Arsenal are winning without him.
It has been a big week for Mikel Arteta in north London, who has stuck his chest out and showed all who is boss.
The Spaniard stripped Aubameyang as captain, handed the armband to Alexandre Lacazette on a temporary basis, before winning the three games following that ruthless call.
Those wins – against Southampton, West Ham and Leeds – weren’t any type of wins, but outstanding performances from the side.
Wright was asked, after Arsenal put four past injury-savaged Leeds yesterday, what Aubameyang will be thinking, at this moment in time.
“You say ‘what will be thinking right now’ but we don’t know what’s happened,” said Wright. “We only know half the story, at the moment and it’s not clear enough.
“I know for a fact if I am a striker I am feeling a little bit aggrieved because your team’s winning without you. I don’t care who you are, whatever has happened, is happy that the team’s winning, you’re not playing and they are scoring.
“You’re not happy. You want to get back in their and be amongst that.”
It doesn’t look like Aubameyang will be getting back into the Arsenal XI any time soon, or even training with the squad.
Some would say he is going down the route of Mesut Ozil, but even that’s not happening.
It seems as though Aubameyang is training away from the squad, something which Ozil, when he was discarded, didn’t do during his time under Arteta.
Either way, it has been a big week for Arteta because his team have done the talking for him on the field of play, despite the supposed chaos off it.
