According to The Telegraph, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now been forced to train away from the first-team at Arsenal.
The former captain has had a tough few weeks in north London. He’s been frozen out of the squad, stripped of the captaincy and now he’s been forced to train on his own.
We don’t know what Aubameyang has done to deserve this level of punishment from the Gunners, but Arsenal are certainly coming down hard on the Gabonese forward.
To put this into some perspective, Mesut Ozil, who had serious problems behind the scenes and was also frozen out of the Arsenal squad, was never asked to train alone, and he even impressed teammates and the manager in training towards the end of his time in north London.
Ozil was eventually given a leave of absence as he pursued a transfer in January, but before that, he trained as he usually would.
Aubameyang hasn’t gone on strike or refused to train. In fact, he’s been pictured turning up to London Colney early, seemingly in an attempt to impress the higher-ups at the club, but, as of yet, his efforts seem to be in vain.
Arsenal and Aubameyang don’t expect this situation to change until he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations later in the month, with his situation set to be reviewed upon his return.
This certainly doesn’t bode well for Aubameyang’s future and it looks as though his future at Arsenal is truly hanging in the balance.
Let’s just hope this doesn’t turn even more ugly than it already has.
