Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Sky Sports that he has been taken aback by Diogo Jota.

Klopp has said that he wanted to sign Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers the first time he saw him.

However, the Liverpool boss has admitted that the 25-year-old Portugal international has still surprised him.

Jurgen Klopp verdict on Diogo Jota

Klopp told Sky Sports about Jota: “I remember the first time I saw him I thought he could be a player for me because of how intense he was in all situations.

“Technically he was on a really high level but the intensity he puts in makes all the difference as at our level all players have technical quality.

“You make a difference with your attitude and that was what I was most excited about adding Diogo to the mix.”

The Liverpool boss added: “What I didn’t know when I saw him first is Diogo is an incredible package.

“From a personality point of view he is an incredible boy, really smart, structured in a nice way.”

Big player for Liverpool

Liverpool paid Wolves £41 million to sign Jota in the summer of 2020 (BBC Sport).

The former Atletico Madrid prospect was expected to be a back-up to the front-three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

However, in our opinion, Jota has now made himself as a key figure in the Liverpool attacking lineup and is simply brilliant.

With Firmino injured at the moment, the Portugal international is starting games and making a huge impact.

The Liverpool no. 20 has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 11 Premier League starts so far this season.

Jota – who earns 120,000 per week (Salary Sport) – has also scored one goal in three Champions League starts for Liverpool so far this campaign.
