Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to Jordan Henderson handing the captain’s armband to Georginio Wijnaldum against Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.
Henderson started the Premier League for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening, and so did fellow midfielder Wijnaldum.
The England international midfielder – who has been on the books of the Reds since the summer of 2011 when he joined from Sunderland for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million – played until the 81st minute when he was replaced by Naby Keita, as Jurgen Klopp’s won the match 4-0 with ease.
Before Henderson went off, he decided to give Netherlands international midfielder Wijnaldum – who scored in the 58th minute and had a very good game overall – the captain’s armband.
Some Liverpool fans were pleased to see that and have expressed their delight on Twitter, hoping that it helps persuade the 30-year-old to sign a new contract and commit his future to the defending Premier League champions.
The former Newcastle United midfielder is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of 2021, and no new deal is in place yet.
