Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has shared how excited he is at the prospect of seeing Jesse Lingard playing for West Ham.

The Hammers are reportedly close to sealing a deal to bring the England international in on loan for the rest of the season, and Wright is looking forward to seeing Lingard get back to his best.

We can understand why Wright is so excited, after all, Lingard is an exceptional player when he’s firing on all cylinders, and the ex-Arsenal star believes he can return to form at West Ham.

“If it is West Ham and he’s going into a team that is playing with a lot of confidence, I can’t wait to see him without the pressure of United on his shoulders. He’s going to play for a West Ham, if you do a couple of things right with West Ham and those fans are fantastic,” Wright said.

“I only went there for a little while, but they see you’re committed and you’re in. Remember, 28 in football especially with him, he’s not injury prone, we’re talking about somebody who is very fit with what he’s doing. The only thing that is missing from Jesse Lingard to get back where he is, remember he’s only 28, is confidence.”

Wright is spot on.

If there’s any club to get back on track at this season it’s West Ham.

The Hammers are outperforming all expectations and spirits are high at the London Stadium at the moment, and an atmosphere like that will suit Lingard down to a tee.

There’s no real pressure on Lingard at West Ham, and that may just be what he needs to rediscover the form that made him one of Gareth Southgate’s first-choice midfielders a few years ago.
