Michael Owen has stated that he thinks Everton are ‘pretty much safe’ from relegation, whilst he feels Burnley hold a ‘slight advantage’ over Leeds United.

The Premier League relegation battle is going to take its biggest twist yet on Thursday night and Leeds won’t even be involved.

To get the simpler one out of the way, Everton host Crystal Palace at Goodison Park knowing three points will secure their safety.

Whereas Burnley, who travel to Villa Park, they are sitting in the danger zone, but one point is enough to see Mike Jackson’s side leapfrog Leeds and have destiny in their own hands heading into the final day of the season.

One thing is for sure, those in Yorkshire will be cheering on Villa tonight because they need a favour from Steven Gerrard’s men.

Nonetheless, this is what Owen told Premier League Daily (18/05/22 at 1:15 pm) regarding the relegation battle.

“Everton definitely have the advantage,” said Owen. “They have had a nice little run of things recently. That win against Chelsea was absolutely huge.

“Their real big game is Palace. If they can get a point, then I think it’s pretty much them safe. I can’t see Burnley getting four points or more.

“That leaves us, realistically with Burnley (and Leeds), they have to go to Aston Villa. That’s not an easy one.

“Then, both of them (Burnley and Leeds) have got winnable games last game of the season. I think having points in the bag, in this part of the season, is vitally important.

“Burnley have that extra game, you would probably say they are slight favourites. But only slight in staying up ahead of Leeds.”

LEEDS NEED A FAVOUR FROM VILLA AGAINST BURNLEY

If Villa beat Burnley, then Leeds will have destiny at their own feet and that’s having to beat Brentford on the final day of the season.

Either way, both Leeds and Burnley have to prepare for a nerve-racking Sunday because this dogfight will go to the final day – Ian Wright and Alan Shearer also delivered their verdicts.

For Everton, they host Crystal Palace, it’s pretty simple for them and they have the chance to avoid that final day drama.

If they fail to beat Palace, then they could be in a situation where they need something at Arsenal in order to survive – and, unless you are Leeds or Burnley, you don’t want that.
