‘I can imagine, yes’: Player says his manager could quit after Tottenham Hotspur claims

Sven Botman has told The Athletic that Christophe Galtier could leave Lille, amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

The London Evening Standard reported last month that Galtier is a contender for the Tottenham managerial role, as covered by HITC Sport.

Spurs are on the hunt for a permanent manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month.

ESPN reported this month that the Frenchman could simply leave Lille at the end of the season.

Lille central defender Botman has suggested that Galtier, 54, will have a lot of interest this summer and could leave the Ligue 1 club.

Botman told The Athletic’s YouTube channel, as transcribed in the print edition: “If you can achieve with a club like Lille, I think it’s normal that his name is being mentioned. He brings us a lot of good.

“We started this season with the main goal that if we get clean sheets the whole time, we have a good chance of winning matches. It’s easy to say but it really works for us and we started working hard on this.

“After getting these clean sheets or conceding as few goals as possible, it’s difficult to lose or drop points. The coach had a huge impact on this.

“The style of play, the mentality that the coach brings, is really important, too. I think after this season, also for the coach, there will be a lot of interest. I do not know but I can imagine, yes.”

Galtier has been superb for Lille since he became the manager of Lille, who can actually win the Ligue 1 title this season.

The 54-year-old is a very good manager who was at Saint-Etienne from 2009 until 2017.

The Frenchman has shown in his two managerial roles that he is one for the long term and can build a strong team if given time.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could do with a manager such as Galtier, who can make the team successful in the long run.

Tottenham have some wonderful players, such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

What Spurs need is a manager who can get the best out of the players the club have and also bring in some quality players for defence.

Galtier is not going to make Spurs title-challengers overnight, but as he has shown at Lille this season, if given time, he can be a huge success.
