The USMNT saw their hopes of reaching the World Cup final on home soil come crashing down this week.

There had been much debate in the build-up to the game after USA striker Folarin Balogun was granted permission to play in their Round of 16 game despite being shown a red card in the previous round.

But even with their main striker taking to the field, the USMNT were still beaten heavily by Belgium, and Iran’s Football Federation have now spoken out on the defeat.

Iran Football Federation say ‘whole world is dancing’ after USA lost to Belgium

Iran endured a difficult 2026 World Cup campaign, which saw them unable to travel to the US until just a day or two before some of their group games.

Their manager detailed US travel delays and said FIFA had ‘not succeeded’ with World Cup logistics.

One of the national team’s medics also revealed problems Iran faced around their first World Cup game in the USA.

Now, in response to the USMNT being knocked out by Belgium and having Balogun play the game, Iran have released a statement via a spokesperson.

As quoted by The Mirror US, the Iran FF said: “Now the whole world is dancing to celebrate politics’ humiliating defeat by football.”

The statement comes on the back of comments made by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, who said on Iran: “I was so happy when we were able to pull their visas and said they could leave the US soil, and I might’ve sung a song or two or maybe even danced a happy dance. I’m very happy they’re going back because there wasn’t a single team that we dealt with more than them.”

The Iran FF responded to said comments earlier this week, saying: “Iranians are used to the mistreatment and lies of US officials, so no one in Iran is surprised by these hostile remarks.”
