Hugh Keevins is in disbelief by what he’s hearing about Celtic’s Hyeongyu Oh

Celtic have kicked off their preparation for the new Scottish Premiership campaign by recording a 1-1 draw against Ayr United in pre-season.

With summer competitions taking centre stage, including Euro 2024, some players are still away and resting after a gruelling campaign.

That’s why Brendan Rodgers named several youngsters and fringe players in his Celtic squad, including striker Hyeongyu Oh.

The 23-year-old came off the bench when Rodgers made wholesale changes at half-time, with the scoreline reading 1-1 at the time and finishing that away after the full-time whistle.

This was more of a case of the Celtic players getting some much-needed minutes into their legs, but you just have to wonder if Oh will be at Parkhead next season.

Fans want Adam Idah to return after his strong loan spell last season, some feel that Celtic will secure his transfer and bring him in.

If that deal goes through, then it puts Oh on the back foot even further because Rodgers will then have Idah and the ever-popular Kyogo Furuhashi to pick from.

It was put to Hugh Keevins that Oh could leave this summer, with Belgian side Genk keen on bringing the South Korean star on board.

A transfer price tag of £4 million was suggested and Keevins just couldn’t believe it because he thinks it would be ‘a miracle’ if that happens, as he told Clyde 1.

Either way, selling Oh for that possible fee and then bringing in Idah for a little bit more is something which Keevins thinks has to happen.

Transfer interest in Hyeongyu Oh

“Interested in Oh being on the bench because there has been a lot of talk about him potentially going to Belgium,” said host Andrew Maclean. “The fee was quoted at about £4 million as well.

Hugh Keevins responded: “That’s the point at which I was disbelieved at that story because to get £4 million for Oh would be a miracle, in my estimation.

“Genk, who are the club who want him, if they want him badly, then they would have had him by now. I can’t help but feel there is a stumbling block in there somewhere. He isn’t the player Adam Idah is. That’s why the deal looked attractive because, you are thinking, if by some chance they got £4 million for Oh and had to pay £6 million for Adam Idah, then Oh has subsidised the purchase of a player who is better than he is.”

Celtic need to bring back Adam Idah

The fans absolutely love him. He has done more in a few months than what Oh has done and it’s a deal that feels right.

The thing with Oh is that you can’t fault his effort, but it’s about the end result at Celtic and you just simply can’t falter.

Not only is Idah scoring the goal. He scored big, big goals, including that winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

Either way, this feels like a deal that would suit all parties. Idah enhancing his career at Celtic, Norwich getting a fee, Celtic getting who they want, Oh moving on to earn regular stars and the Bhoys getting money in for him.
