Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Franck Kessie amid interest from both Liverpool and Tottenham.
The Ivorian midfielder has been the subject of a lot of speculation as his contract winds down, and it sounds as though he could be on the move this summer.
Indeed, Romano says that there’s a good chance that the midfielder will leave on a free. However, he won’t be cheap.
The Ivorian is after what is described as a ‘huge salary’, and while Barcelona are in negotiations with his agent, he won’t be making a decision for a little while yet as he waits for other clubs to approach him.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Kessie.
“There are good chances of Franck Kessie leaving AC Milan on a free transfer. It’s not something that has been decided because Milan will be in conversations with the player until the very end. It is very complicated, he’s asking for around €8m or €9m net, so it is a huge salary,” Romano said.
Last season he was incredible, this season he’s not at the same level, but he’s still one of the best midfielders in Serie A. Now, Barcelona are in conversations with his agents, but there’s nothing agreed, they’re waiting for an answer, but he wants to keep his situation open in the coming weeks to discuss with other clubs in other countries. Let’s see what happens from the Premier League. It is an open situation for Kessie.”

Race is on
It sounds as though there’s going to be a real race for Kessie’s signature this summer.
As Romano says, he’s one of the best midfielders in Serie A, and when a player like this comes onto the market, Europe’s elite are bound to sit up and take notice.
Barcelona are already in talks with him, while Spurs and Liverpool also supposedly have an eye on the midfielder.
This looks like it will be one of the most compelling stories of the summer transfer window.
