Chris Sutton suggested on BBC Radio 5 live (7:21pm, March 15, 2021) that there is a big question mark on Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now.

The former Chelsea striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, made the comments in the wake of the Arsenal striker being left out of the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta left the 31-year-old out of the starting lineup for the Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium due to disciplinary reasons.

The Gabon international striker reportedly arrived late for the game. Arsenal won the derby 2-1, with Aubameyang not coming on as a substitute.

Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 live (7:21pm, March 15, 2021): “Moving forward, there’s a huge question mark because I think when Arteta was asked yesterday should Aubameyang continue as captain, he was non-committal.”

Much ado about nothing?

It was a big call from Arteta to leave out arguably the best – when on form – and most important player from his team for the North London derby, but it did not affect the result in the end.

Whatever happened was dealt with on the day, and everyone must move on. One suspects that Aubameyang would not have been happy with the decision, but he is a mature player and is unlikely to make a big deal of it now.
