Tottenham have confirmed that academy goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has joined Allsvenskan side Degerfors IF on a season-long loan.

The club confirmed on their official website that the 22-year-old shot-stopper will spend the season in Scandinavia. Whiteman impressed in pre-season under Nuno Espirito Santo.

A loan move has been long overdue for Whiteman. The keeper has played just one professional game in his entire career, that coming in a substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League last campaign.

Indeed, with Spurs signing Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta, Whiteman faced a mountain in trying to get regular first-team minutes with the north London club.

And a loan spell is exactly what Whiteman needs at this stage of his Tottenham career. After all, the keeper is yet to play regular first-team football. And a move to the Swedish top-flight will be a step in the right direction.

And for Spurs fans on social media, they are buzzing that Whiteman is finally going out on loan to not only show off his impressive qualities but to also develop into the top goalkeeper most supporters think he can become.
