Huddersfield Town will once again be playing Championship football after losing to Nottingham Forest in the play-off final last weekend at Wembley Stadium.

Given that Carlos Corberan’s side were one of the favourites to go down to League One at the start of the season, it is quite incredible just how far the Terriers went under the Spanish coach and how incredible the squad performed as a whole.

With Huddersfield going all the way to the wire in the play-offs, it is likely that some big changes are afoot this summer, with the Yorkshire club likely to lose some big names during the window, with star midfielder Lewis O’Brien wanted by Leeds United and West Ham.

Indeed, whilst some players might leave, Huddersfield’s accomplishments means that the club have a strong chance of bringing in some big names this summer, and here is what the Terriers’ XI could look like in the Championship next season.

Alfie Mawson joins back-three alongside Huddersfield regulars

With Huddersfield having one of the best defences in the Championship next season, the only real replacement the club needs to focus on is that of Levi Colwill, who is likely to return to Chelsea this summer ahead of another loan move to a bigger club in a more difficult division.

The three-at-the-back system has done wonders for Huddersfield and Corberan this season, and a player who could be a solid addition to the squad is Fulham defender Alfie Mawson, who is set to leave the Championship champions this summer at the end of his contract.

An experienced head in the second-tier who also has an impressive amount of appearances in the Premier League, Mawson is an ideal player to join Huddersfield to replace Colwill and to add another quality addition to an already stacked defence featuring Tom Lees and Matty Pearson, with Lee Nicholls retaining his spot between the sticks.

As mentioned at the start, O’Brien looks set to depart Huddersfield this summer, with a move to the Premier League seemingly on the cards for the 23-year-old midfielder. And in our predicted XI, we have Andy Rinomhota as the replacement for the youngster.

The Reading star is one of the Royals’ highest-rated players, with Rinomhota returning from a knee injury and his contract expiring this summer, the 25-year-old could be ready for a new adventure in the Championship with Huddersfield.

As for the rest of the midfield, many familiar faces from last season remain with Harry Toffolo and Sorba Thomas retaining their spots out on the wing whilst club captain Jonathan Hogg starts in the centre, with Chelsea talent Tino Anjorin returning for a second loan spell at Huddersfield after joining in January.

Josh Koroma partners Danny Ward for Huddersfield in striker positions

With 14 goals last season, Danny Ward was Huddersfield’s top goalscorer across all competitions for Corberan’s side, and at 31, the Bradford-born striker can still offer plenty for the Terriers’ next campaign as the Yorkshire side look to gain promotion to the Premier League.

As to who will partner Ward, we have selected a left-field option in 23-year-old attacker Josh Koroma, who as it stands could actually leave Huddersfield this summer with the forward’s contract expiring at the end of June.

Whilst the attacker only bagged four goals in the league last season, Koroma is a striker with plenty of potential and has shown in various spells and games that he can impress in the Championship. And next year could finally be the one that sees the former Leyton Orient star explode onto the scene.
