Charlie Austin has questioned on talkSPORT how Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is going to react to Gareth Bale’s comments.
Bale has caused quite a stir whilst on international duty by claiming that he plans to return to Real Madrid in the summer and suggesting that he used Spurs to build-up his fitness, as he told Sky Sports.
His comments haven’t sat well with the Tottenham faithful and it will be interesting to see what reaction the Welshman gets from his manager upon his return from national duty.
Ex-QPR striker Austin suggested that Bale made a mistake with his comments because it came at the ‘wrong time’.
“They (Spurs fans) didn’t want to hear Gareth Bale say that,” said Austin. “There was excitement there (when he first arrived). But they weren’t getting the Bale of five years ago and I think they knew that.
On whether Bale has used Tottenham: “He was giving the best opportunity for himself and his country to perform in this year’s Euros. He might have only had Tottenham on the table and he has accepted that.
“He thought he may get more game time at Tottenham than he would have at Real Madrid – but, for me, Spurs have the Bale of now and not of five years ago.
“If the Euros didn’t happen then he wouldn’t have moved. But Tottenham have used him because he was available. A few (Spurs fans) will have a problem – it’s the wrong time (to make those comments) and they still have a League Cup final coming up. You don’t know how Jose is going to react. How’s Jose going to react?”

Bale, who had started life at Tottenham in a pretty slow fashion, might have upset a few people in North London now.
Of course, putting the ball into the back of the net, securing a top-four finish and winning the League Cup, will result in his comments being forgotten.
But this is the beauty of international football because, without their club media team, players are asked what journalists want to ask them and they can answer however which way they want without any restrictions.
