Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left devastated after Gareth Bale’s latest comments, which were covered by the London Evening Standard.
Bale rejoined Tottenham to huge celebration last summer, when he signed on loan from Real Madrid.
Although the move hasn’t gone exactly according to plan, Bale has shown glimpses of the quality he still possesses – particularly recently.
However, Bale has now suggested that he won’t be staying at Tottenham next term.
“I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost,” he said.
“Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid.
“My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.”
And Tottenham supporters have been left absolutely crestfallen after the latest development.
Whether Bale’s comments were just poorly worded, or if he genuinely is planning on returning to Madrid remains to be seen.
It was widely expected that staying at Tottenham would be his first choice option, but it seems that may not be the case.
If Bale is to return to Madrid now it is likely to be a major disappointment to Spurs supporters, who have embraced him since his return.
Tottenham fans have generally sided with Bale, when Jose Mourinho wasn’t picking him, and he may have to clarify his comments at a later date, after causing some frustration around the North London club yesterday.
