The words ‘Arsenal‘ and ‘clean sheets’ are something that sounds like they shouldn’t belong together. But a recent stat has shone light onto how defensively solid the Gunners have actually been in recent months.
A feature from the Athletic shows that Arsenal have the joint-most clean sheets out of any side in the Premier League over the past 20 games in all competitions.
With 18 goals conceded during that time, nine of which came in the first three games of this season, and Arsenal are surprisingly one of the best defensive clubs in the English top-flight.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s side were tight at the back at the end of last season. And following the arrivals of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer, Arsenal have developed a strong base at the back.
Indeed, since the 5-0 loss to Manchester City at the start of the season, Arsenal have kept clean sheets in five of their eight games since that damming defeat in August.
Arteta and Arsenal have really turned a corner, and compared to the number of clean sheers their top-six rivals have kept over the past 20 games, the Gunners are performing well at the back.
Arsenal fans stunned over clean sheets stat

Indeed, the stat was a shock to both Arsenal fans as well as neutrals on social media. With supporters stunned that the Gunners have had a 50% clean-sheet ratio in their last 20 matches.
Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say on Twitter about their clean sheet record…
