The idea that England’s World Cup last 16 showdown with Mexico could be moved forward by six hours has not gone down well with the Football Association (FA) it seems.
While England were surely favourites for the game on paper, anyone expecting a routine victory always seemed a touch too optimistic.
The Estadio Azteca is a ‘fortress’, but are you really that worried given the level of opposition they’ve faced? 🤔
Perhaps context suggests England stand a chance…
Quite how much impact the altitude will have remains to be seen, but it is clearly an issue that the Three Lions must overcome.
Indeed, the famous Estadio Azteca sits 2,240m above sea level and that will have at least some impact on the England players.
As if that wasn’t enough to deal with, Mexico vs England could be moved forward by six hours due to adverse weather and the FA are not happy about it.
FA unhappy about FIFA talks to move Mexico vs England
According to The Daily Mirror, the FA are believed to be deeply concerned about the idea of moving the game forward to 12pm CST, which is 7pm BST.
They are thought to be worried about the impact it will have on supporters and how they will get to the stadium for the match.
The Daily Mail, meanwhile, suggest that FA bosses are stunned at the idea it could be moved just 48 hours before an already complicated game was due to kick-off.

Fans have already been asked to pay huge prices to follow their team this summer and such a radical shift hours before kick-off is another complication for them to potentially deal with.
The news, if confirmed of course, is better for fans in the UK. While pubs in the country were granted a licence to extend their operating hours until 5am, the proposed new kick-off time is clearly more workable for the large majority of people.
While Mexico’s home record does need to be put into some perspective when considering the level of teams they have played of late, they are clearly a strong team and one worthy of respect even without the added complications.
