Team USA fans are set to spend more than any other nation’s supporters during the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.
Despite being one of the host nations, fans following the United States will reportedly face the highest total expenses, according to a new study.
The analysis considered all matchday essentials, including three group-stage tickets, hotel stays, and inter-city travel between venues across the country.
The research highlights just how expensive the 2026 tournament experience could be for home fans compared to visitors from abroad.

Study reveals Team USA fans will pay the most
According to DocSports, the estimated $3,117 price tag for following Team USA through the group stage makes American supporters the most financially burdened of all national fanbases.
The study compared the expected spending patterns of fans from 48 participating countries, accounting for local inflation, accommodation costs, and transport between World Cup venues.
As one of the three hosts of the 2026 tournament, the United States will see matches spread across major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Dallas, meaning supporters may need to travel thousands of miles between fixtures.
Combined with rising domestic hotel prices and ticket demand, that travel factor contributes heavily to the higher projected costs.
By contrast, fans from co-host nations Mexico and Canada are expected to spend slightly less than the U.S. average, reflecting shorter travel distances and more centralized group fixtures.
The figure stands above the average cost of $2,875 projected for host nation fans overall, which includes supporters from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Hosting doesn’t guarantee affordability
The findings underline how hosting the World Cup doesn’t necessarily make it easier or cheaper for local fans to attend.
American supporters, in particular, will have to contend with long travel routes between stadiums and limited low-cost accommodation in host cities.
While the estimated $3,117 figure covers just the group stage, total costs could rise significantly for those following Team USA deeper into the tournament.
Ticket availability, local price surges, and match location changes could push total spending even higher.
Still, with anticipation building for the first 48-team World Cup, demand among U.S. fans remains expectedly high.
Even at premium prices, attending the World Cup on home soil is being viewed as a once-in-a-generation experience, one that many supporters won’t want to miss, regardless of the cost.
