Sergio Ramos linked up with UFC champion Ilia Topuria for a light training session as he looks to return to the World Cup stage.

Sergio Ramos has turned to an unexpected source of inspiration as he looks to prolong his career — teaming up with UFC world champion Ilia Topuria.

The 39-year-old defender, currently without a club, said the experience reminded him of the focus and intensity needed to compete at the highest level as he aims for one final return to the Spain national team.

Sergio Ramos calls training with Ilia Topuria a ‘privilege’

Sergio Ramos posted a video of the session, which showed him sparring and working through grappling drills with Ilia Topuria.

The two share a close friendship, and the former Real Madrid and Sevilla captain said the training was both challenging and inspiring.

“It’s a privilege for a world champion to give a lesson to a two-time world champion,” Ramos joked — a nod to Topuria’s two UFC Championships.

Topuria replied, “You’re the two-time champion, brother.”

The session reflected the same competitive drive that defined Ramos throughout his career. He continues to train daily, incorporating new disciplines like mixed martial arts to stay sharp physically and mentally.

Those around him believe the sessions have helped maintain the energy and edge that made him one of football’s fiercest competitors.

Sergio Ramos eyes final chapter in Europe and a World Cup return

After leaving Monterrey earlier this year, Ramos is weighing several offers for what could be the final stage of his career.

Reports in Spain suggest his focus is on returning to Europe. The move would keep him in contention for a potential call-up from Luis de la Fuente ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Those close to him say he wants to finish his career in an environment that matches his ambition and competitive standards.

For Ramos, training with Topuria was more than a workout — it was a reminder of what it takes to stay elite.

Even as his next move remains undecided, he continues to prepare like a champion, driven by one final goal: to represent Spain on the world stage once more.
