Leeds United fans have been keen to know more about Michael Skubala after Jesse Marsch received his marching orders at Elland Road.

The 40-year-old will take charge on Wednesday evening as Leeds battle Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas also set to help out after the American received his P45.

Skubala will be taking on Marsch’s media duties as Leeds search for a replacement, but how did he end up at Elland Road? Let’s take a look…

How Michael Skubala ended up at Leeds United

As per the official announcement from Leeds when Skubala was named Under-21 Head Coach in July 2022, he beat “candidates from across the world” to land the role.

How? Well, Leeds added that the Englishman’s work “within the FA, alongside his ambitious plans for the group” gave him the “edge” over other candidates.

Skubala has previously worked with England’s futsal side before teaming up with the national team’s youngsters, eventually landing the England Under-18 Head Coach role.

Before starting work with the FA, Skubala was Director of Football at Loughborough University.

As you can see, the Leeds interim boss has experienced an interesting pathway to the Premier League, and Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford represents a huge opportunity for him personally.

As we saw with Mark Jackson, who left his job as Head Coach of the Leeds Under-21 side to become manager of MK Dons, some significant roles could present themselves to Skubala if he oversees a strong performance in Manchester.

Could Leeds appoint Michael Skubala?

It is possible that Leeds hire Skubala until the end of the season if he does well, just like Gary O’Neil was handed a permanent contract by Bournemouth after impressing in the wake of Scott Parker being sacked.

Leeds have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid legend Raul, although he is unsure about a move to Yorkshire at this stage of his career.

If Leeds continue to face difficulty in finding a replacement for Marsch, and Skubala shows some talent in the interim role, then anything is possible.
