England’s problems at right-back got even worse during their enthralling World Cup last 16 match against Mexico.
A position that once boasted so much quality has now proven a problem area for the Three Lions.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad selection on that front was questioned before the tournament and the problems have not stopped since.

A quick VAR check results in a red card for Quansah. It was a reckless, rather awful tackle. England can have no complaints about it.
Tino Livramento pulled out of the squad before a ball was kicked, while both Reece James and Djed Spence have suffered injuries during the tournament.
To make matters worse, Quansah was shown a red card against Mexico.
Quansah to miss one World Cup game and England cannot appeal red card
The Bayer Leverkusen defender was sent off following a VAR review in the 54th minute.
Quansah will now miss the quarter-finals, where England will play Norway. He will be suspended for at least one match, but FIFA’s disciplinary panel do have the option to add further games to it if they deem the challenge serious enough.
There is no appeal process at the World Cup, either. England will not be able to appeal the decision, despite Folarin Balogun having his red card shown while playing for the USMNT against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
That is a very rare occurrence in the World Cup. In fact, the only red card in World Cup history that had ever been rescinded before Balogun’s was when Brazil legend Garrincha was allowed to play in that year’s final against Czechoslovakia despite being sent off in the semi-final.
