Rangers manager Mark Warburton is reportedly wanted south of the border.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has emerged as a top target for English Championship side Wigan Athletic, according to the Scottish Sun.
After a turbulent start to life in the Scottish top-flight, it’s entirely plausible that Warburton would consider a return to his homeland – and a division in which he has previously experienced success, taking Brentford to the play-offs in 2014-15.
Were that to prove the case, however, a trio of Rangers stars may be able to talk him out of it.
Key men Rob Kiernan, James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn know all too well what it’s like to be employed by Wigan in a relegation battle, with each one wasting little time in jumping ship once the inevitable was finally confirmed.

So bad was their final season in Lancashire – in which Kiernan and Tavernier were loaned to Birmingham and Bristol City respectively and Waghorn scored just three times in total – that neither player thought twice about joining Warburton in Scottish football’s second tier, albeit for the lure of Ibrox and a chance to play for the country’s most successful club.
With each one enjoying, arguably, their best career spells under Warburton – who also worked with Kiernan at Watford – it’s hard to envisage the trio willing their manager out of Rangers.

There is also Uwe Rosler – Warburton’s boss at Brentford – who could speak of the perils of joining Wigan, having began the 2014-15 campaign in charge of the Latics only to be sacked in December despite recording a top-six finish half a year earlier.

It’s like being propositioned by the unfaithful ex-partner of all of your best mates. Warburton, surely, would heed the warnings?
