Wigan Athletic are reportedly looking to make Mark Warburton their new manager.

According to The Scottish Sun, Wigan Athletic want to make Mark Warburton their new manager having sacked Gary Caldwell earlier this week.
The Latics won the League One title under Caldwell last season, earning promotion to the Championship as a result – but poor results this term have cost Caldwell his job.

With just two wins in 14 league games, Wigan sit second bottom of the table and three points adrift of safety, with chairman David Sharpe ultimately deciding to move on from former Celtic defender Caldwell.
Now, Sharpe is looking for a replacement. Whilst the Daily Mail believe that Karl Robinson and Ryan Giggs are both in the running, The Scottish Sun report that the Latics are also eyeing Rangers boss Mark Warburton.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Warburton, 54, enjoyed a dream first season at Ibrox last term, guiding Rangers to the Scottish Championship title and subsequently back to the Premiership, but this season has been a little tougher.
Currently sitting fifth in the table, Rangers are already nine points behind leaders Celtic, and suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Bhoys in September, all of which has mounted pressure on Warburton.
General view of the DW Stadium
It’s now claimed that Wigan chairman Sharpe is a huge fan of Warburton, and it’s suggested that they got on well when Rangers made a triple swoop on Wigan to sign Rob Kiernan, James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn in 2015, with those prior dealings believed to be a factor in Wigan’s pursuit.
It remains to be seen whether Warburton would even consider a move to Wigan, given that they’re battling relegation in the Championship, but Sharpe appears very keen to finally lure Warburton to the DW Stadium, after Wigan attempted to land him as a sporting director upon Uwe Rosler’s appointment as manager in 2013.
