Burton’s Jackson Irvine celebrates
Derby County are one of several clubs said to have been keen on Burton Albion’s Jackson Irvine in January (The World Game).
But could the Rams renew their interest this coming transfer window? We’ve taken a look…
How’s he getting on?
Irvine has added two more goals since Derby’s interest was reported, taking his tally for the season into double figures. Curiously, the midfielder is still awaiting his first assist in Burton colours.
Do Derby still need him?
Other than Tom Ince (who’s essentially a forward anyway) no Rams midfielder has scored more than twice in the Championship, and a player like Irvine could make a real difference next season.
Could they get him this summer?
The Australian is said to have snubbed £100,000 a week to play in China, with the English Premier League his immediate target. Although Derby are unlikely to make it this season, their ambition to get there sharpish could appeal. With all due respect, he’s not going to get there with Burton, and it’s not like he’d have to move house.
Verdict: 6/10 – It remains to be seen whether or not the new Rams boss Gary Rowett will be interested in Irvine, while the Rams’ budget could scupper their chances, barring any major sales.
