There is a general view that Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is the best centre-back in the Premier League, but, according to Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, it is one of his Gunners teammates.

Liverpool are having a wonderful season, and Virgil van Dijk has been universally lauded. The former Celtic star is a rock at the back for the Reds, and many pundits are of the view that he is the best defender in the world. Some even think that he is the best ever centre-back to have played in the Premier League.

For Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, though, the best centre-back in the Premier League at the moment is not Van Dijk. It is his teammate and Brazil international striker Gabriel.

Eddie Nketiah gives his verdict on Arsenal teammate Gabriel

When asked to name the best centre-back in the Premier League, Nketiah said Gabriel on Sky Sports and noted: “You have to look at what he is doing at the moment, man, how well we are defending at the back, how much of a threat he is in the opposition box as well, so important chipping in with a lot of goals, he is scoring quite a lot. For me, he is impressive in the duels, we see every day how aggressive he is in training.”

My View: Gabriel is a big player for Arsenal

In my view, Gabriel is one of the best and most important players for Arsenal and will be key to the Gunners’ chances of having a successful season.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season, and I think that Gabriel will have to be on top of his game.

Much has been said about William Saliba, but we cannot undermine just how good Gabriel has been for Mikel Arteta’s side this campaign.

The £27 million (Sky Sports) Brazil international centre-back has scored four goals in 38 matches in all competitions for the Gunners this season. He has been shown just four yellow cards all season.

Gabriel has made 122 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 14 goals and kept 40 clean sheets in those games.
