While pundits have been raving about Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk, former Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Michael Dawson has outlined the importance of Ibrahima Konate in the team.
The Sky Sports pundit thinks that Konate might feel underappreciated because he does not always get the credit he deserves.
The defender is injured at the moment and may not play for Liverpool against Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

Dawson said about Konate on Sky Sports News (12:19 pm, March 9, 2024): “Konate probably is the one that sits there and goes, ‘Oh, Virgil van Dijk, everyone is talking about him, he is a Rolls-Royce, he does this, he does that’.
“He is probably thinking, ‘What about me?’ I am the one who is going toe-to-toe with these physical centre-forwards, I am the one who heads it and blocks and runs out to the channels’.
“He deserves as much credit because you develop partnerships in that centre-back position. Virgil, for me, he is obviously the best out there, but Konate when he is playing, in the Cup final, he was magnificent.”
My View: Ibrahima Konate is an important player for Liverpool
In my opinion, Ibrahima Konate is one of the best and most important players for Liverpool.
The defender has progressed and developed a lot in recent years and has made himself a key figure in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has made 14 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.
Konate has also played five times in the UEFA Europa League for the Merseyside club this campaign.
Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this season. They are now aiming to clinch the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
I believe that for Liverpool to win all those trophies, Konate will have to be on top form throughout.
