Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to walk away from Goodison Park couldn’t have come at a worse time as far as Crystal Palace supporters are concerned.
When the Sun reported at the weekend that Palace had identified Nuno Espirito Santo as Roy Hodgson’s replacement, it felt like Steve Parish had walked into Waitrose with a lonely fiver in his back pocket.
While no-one should go as far as to describe Nuno as a ‘chequebook manager’, the Daily Mail reports the former Porto and Valencia boss was far from happy after discovering his spending power would be vastly reduced at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 47-year-old walked away from his beloved club once the Wolves bosses made it clear that, should he continue, Nuno would have to strengthen his squad on a much smaller budget than he’d been used to.
Could Nuno replace Ancelotti at Everton?
So, if a lack of funds was the main reason behind his departure from Molineux, would Nuno really consider taking over a Crystal Palace side that has barely spent a penny in recent transfer windows, apart from the £15 million acquisition of Ebere Eze?

TalkSPORT reports Nuno is now in contention for the Everton job too following Ancelotti’s impending return to Real Madrid.
And while the Toffees have failed to finish better than eighth in the past four seasons, ambitious owner Farhad Moshiri would certainly give Nuno the sort of financial firepower he’s unlikely to get at Selhurst Park.
